Welcome to October - the month of wrapping up and getting out the raincoats. We have switched on our central heating and started waking up in the morning and still getting the dawn Fajr prayer in.
For Cherished Muslimahs, this month is all about cultivating the habit of Self-Respect and having healthy boundaries.
If you find that your needs go unmet and need healthy boundaries in your life then this month is your month!
October is one of the autumnal months of the Queen. She is the part of us that insists that we have justice in our lives. If you feel unfairly treated or feel your limits are not honoured, then setting healthy limits in your relationship and life may be just what you need.
Last month we established the habit of Respecting Others - respectful living is what Cherished Muslimahs call Full Respect Living - where we ensure that we protect others from our own 'stuff' - you know, all that controlling, self-righteous, verbally unpleasant behaviour, whilst simultaneously protecting ourselves from their 'stuff'. Cherished Muslimahs stand up for just behaviour!
‘O you who believe! Stand out firmly for justice, as witnesses to Allah, even if it be against yourselves, your parents, and your relatives, or whether it is against the rich or the poor...’
An Nisa (4:135)
We had a brilliant session looking at how The Messenger of Allah ﷺ respected others, led by Ustadah Shaista, Cherished Muslimah's president Seerah, Hadith and Fiqh teacher. If you missed it, you can watch it here. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was amazingly respectful - towards children, women, those less well off than him, those who had disabilities, the list goes on and on....
Respecting others is one of the ways we can follow and emulate The Messenger of Allah ﷺ and become a true Cherished Muslimah.
Say: If you love Allah, then follow me,
Allah will love you and forgive you your sins,
and Allah is forgiving and merciful.
And now, let's start to focus on getting respect for ourselves.

- How to find out where you lack boundaries
- How to cultivate boundaries that protect you
- How to ensure you don't lash out when setting boundaries
- Embodying the Queen so you can be dignified, firm and loving.
- How to use Time Outs effectively in your relationships
- How to say NO effectively to your loved ones, acquaintances, and even strangers.
Not having boundaries in your life can result in you feeling undermined, unsafe and disrespected. However, setting beautiful boundaries will help you to:
- Cultivate a culture of respect in your life, for everyone, including you
- Create win-win solutions where everyone’s needs are met
- Be a woman who speaks her truth
- Value your own needs, values and beliefs
- Take proactive steps to uphold your limits
- Honour yourself by admitting when you can’t do something
- Value the honour Allah has given you
