What Mothers Do When it Looks Like Nothing

Dec 28, 2021

I had a profound realisation today whilst having an Aafiyah Energy Healing session with the lovely Sorayya Khan.

Sorayya asked me what my plans were for the day.  It’s the Christmas holidays and my boys are all home from uni, and it’s a busy house with lots of hungry mouths to feed, in particular, lots of 6-foot tall bodies to feed, as well as a constantly hungry ten-year-old, and here was my reply

‘Well, I have a Cherished Muslimah group coaching session in the evening.

And I need to make some time to talk. One of my sons about something very important.

And I need to cook dinner.

That’s all.’

that’s all? I mean, that’s a lot!

It made me think of all the times we say ‘I’m fine' when we are actually not - or saying ‘It’s nothing’. When actually it’s a pretty big deal.

It’s a pretty big deal to be coaching women to become Cherished, it’s a pretty big deal to speak to a 20-something young man about important stuff, and it’s also a pretty big deal to be feeding a family of six.

When did it stop becoming a big deal?

My darlings, please acknowledge all your big deal things that you do each day.  Thank Allah for your blessings, thank Him for giving you the ability to be so awesome, and thank yourself for all the great stuff you do which you never acknowledge.  And perhaps an apology to yourself won’t go amiss.   Sorry, my dear self, for never verbalising all the great things you are doing on a daily basis.  It’s no wonder others don’t acknowledge you, I don’t acknowledge you myself.

Well, not anymore!

I’m off to pray and then have a cup of tea and celebrate having done the cooking for today, and sorted out all of the leftovers, frozen any extras, and created a puff pastry roll out of the leftover roast.

Now, my darlings. I am going to give you 6 steps to make sure you acknowledge what you do, from now on!

  1. Stop and think of what you need to do, or consider what you have already done
  2. Connect with your purpose and your intention behind the action
  3. Thank Allah for the opportunity and your blessings which enable you to do what you do, and ask Him for more, please!
  4. Do it prayerfully – ask for His assistance and His approval,
  5. Thank yourself for being so awesome
  6. Have a mini celebration afterwards to give yourself a well done!

By doing things purposefully and prayerfully, with gratitude towards Allah and yourself, you will find yourself feeling fulfilled, accomplished and very productive!

Go get 'em, Tiger Momma!
